Steel Roofing FAQS

1). Are Steel Roofs better than shingles?
For saving you money yes. For upgrading your home for resale yes. If you keep your home, it will last you up to 100 years, so your present family, and your children's family will not have to reroof hence great peace of mind, safety, and money savings. Shingles still have to be replaced as they tell me, every 15 to 18 years. Also, shingles blow off in wind storms. Hence insurance claims, hence deductibles some $500.00 some $100.00 so over the course of the years, you may have several claims, which cost you money. Our Eco Steel Roof is guaranteed by the manufacturer for 55 years. Steel Roofs last up to 100 years as is proven from the first ones put on barns over 100 years ago.

2). Are metal roofs noisy?
That is a myth born out of the old barns with steel roofing that were not insulated. All homes today by building code have insulated attics. If your house is insulated in the attic, the sound of rain will be no different than the sound with shingles.

3). Does steel roofing affect my WIFI?
Not that we have ever heard. I have a steel roof and wifi, and I get good reception. .

4). Can you walk on a steel roof?
You can walk on a steel roof or any roof, if it is walk able i.e. 6/12 pitch or less. Safest method is to wear running shoes when walking on a steel roof.

5). Can you put steel over shingles?
Yes, most installations are over shingles. An exception would be if the shingles are extremely poor condition, and if so we would recommend they been torn off. Which we will do for the customer at an added expense of course.

6). Do metal roofs make houses hotter?
Meco Roofing reflects heat, so you will save energy.

7). What are the best shoes for walking on a metal roof?
Good quality sturdy running shoe.

8). What kind of maintenance does a metal roof need?
Every few years take a look up to see if the baffles that keep the bees out, are in place. Some metal roofing companies use vents. If so the seals should be checked every few years. Our Eco Roof does use ridge venting, so that is not required. Check chimney seals every few years. This would be on shingled roofing as well.

9). Does metal roofing add vale to a home?
Definitely. As soon as a prospect sees you have a metal roof, he knows it is worth more now and in the future. It is a great investment.

10). What color roof is most energy efficient?
All our colors are energy efficient and reflect heat.
